« Wednesday's Opponents: AFC Liverpool | Main | Eccleshall 3-0 Cheadle Town »

Results Round-Up: Saturday 6th March 2010

The league table does not make good reading. Our very own Cheadle Town are second-from-bottom - with 18 points from 19 matches - following the weekend's 0-3 defeat at Eccleshall. Of course this isn't taking into account the three points we may get back thanks to the appeal but the league table is what it is. I'm honestly beginning to think that the top ten finish - and participation in next year's FA Cup - is beyond us this season. I hope I'm wrong.

There is, of course, the First Division Trophy to hang our collective hat on. The draw was made for the semi-finals over the weekend and we have been landed with a home tie against Stone Dominoes. No date has been set as yet. AFC Blackpool joined the semi-final line up by defeating Chadderton by a goal to nil on home soil. They will face the winners of the remaining quarter-final tie - Wigan Robin Park v AFC Liverpool - away from home in the other semi-final.

Speaking of Stone Dominoes, they now lead the First Division by goal difference alone from Barnoldswick Town following this weekend's league fixtures. Stone fell to a last-minute goal at in-form Atherton Collieries in a 0-1 defeat and Barnoldswick were held 2-2 at Ashton Town.

Six points and two games-in-hand behind are Leek CSOB; they also drew 2-2 when Oldham Borough were the visitors.

Elsewhere, AFC Liverpool's dicky home form continued with a 0-1 defeat to Wigan Robin Park; Daisy Hill slammed Irlam 3-0 at home and Holker Old Boys' recent good form came to an end following a 0-1 home defeat.
