Weekend Round-Up
Only three matches survived the weather over the weekend - you wouldn't have thought we were in the throes of Spring, would you?
New Mills needed a last-minute goal away to Holker Old Boys to claim a 3-2 victory and move 15 points clear at the top; The Millers just need a draw away to Padiham on Wednesday night to seal promotion.
Oldham Town moved back into 3rd place with a 2-1 away win at Eccleshall whilst Blackpool Mechanics and Norton United played out a 0-0 draw at Jepson Street. The Mechs have only one more match to play, which means that they now have a three-week rest until the final day of the season on Saturday 3rd May!
Our very own Cheadle Town are still in 14th place with 30 points from 30 games.

The Holker v. New Mills result was a travesty. I don’t know if you guys have had the ref who looks like Peter Kay’s brother, but on Saturday this guy produced the most inept performance you’ll ever see. Starts in the first half, deliberate hand ball outside the box from New Mills keeper, yellow card, Holker clean through on goal, keeper to beat, penalty & yellow card, even his lineman (sorry assistant) said he was having a shocker. Then free kick after free kick to the League leaders, well we must be fouling them if lowly old Holker win the ball & nothing & I really mean nothing the other way. All three New Mills goals came from his incompetent decisions. Their winner in the 101 minute, not the 90th (how do you get 11 minutes over? That over 10% of the game added on!), was a free kick on the edge of the box when the New Mills guy fell over, to be fair to New Mills, even their manager came in at the end & apologised for the way they won, he was equally as critical about the ref as we were. I know the League go on about respect, but until they stop putting guys who are clearly out of their depth in the middle you are going to get a reaction borne out of shear frustration and yes to cap it all he red carded two of ours for complaining…no justice. I know this sounds like a whinge, but I can assure you that guys who never say ‘boo to a goose’ & have played at a high level stood open mouthed as he went from bad to…well lets just say we’ll not go there.
