Plenty In Reserve

Every now and again a new face crops up on the pitch which always begs Polardin and I to ask Trevor and Steve: "who's he and where did we get him from?"

More often than not the answer lies with our reserve team. I'm guilty-as-charged for never giving them a mention, which is inexcusable really seeing as how this is a Cheadle Town FC blog; time to put that right.

In a league of 16 teams, Cheadle Town's reserves currently sit 13th (with 20 points from 24 matches) which, if you do things pro-rata, is about the same position that the first team occupy in NWCFL Div 2!

If any of the reserve players are reading this then I'm sure they'll agree with me in saying that they didn't get off to the greatest of starts this season. Scoring goals aplenty they may have been, but they just weren't getting the wins in the league matches; this hoodoo was only broken as recently as Saturday 23rd February when they beat Atherton LR 1-0 at Park Road.

Things started to improve for our reserves since then. They got their first away win - 2-1 at Flixton - on 15th March which heralded a run of four consecutive victories, including a 2-1 home victory over reserves league leaders Glossop North End!

There's still six games to go for our reserves and still plenty of opportunity for a mid-table finish (which would be easier if it weren't for a three-point deduction). Best of luck to them...and my promise of giving their results a mention more often!
