Weekend Round-Up
Game - and ultimately result - of the day was at Kellamergh Park where New Mills went and battered Kirkham and Wesham by four goals to nil. That leaves the Millers 13 points clear at the top of the Div 2 pack - surely all promotion bets are off now!
Below the Millers there is an almighty scrap developing for the second promotion place, although Kirkham and Wesham arguably are still in the best position in 3rd place but with four games-in-hand and only two points behind Ashton Athletic in 2nd, who picked up a 3-1 away win at Padiham over the weekend.
In 4th place are our opponents tomorrow night Oldham Town, 2-1 winners over Holker Old Boys. 5th-placed Blackpool Mechanics are still in with a slender shout but are running out of matches - they lost 2-3 at Leek CSOB.
With oodles of games-in-hand are Chadderton and Bootle in 6th and 7th places respectively. They both had League Challenge Cup (Vodkat League Cup) semi-final first-leg matches to contend with. Chadderton will take a 0-0 draw with Maine Road back to Andrew Street and Bootle will travel to Winsford United's Barton Stadium with a 2-2 draw under their belt. The sensible money is on a Chadderton v Winsford United final, it would seem....
Back to the Div 2 action. Eccleshall beat Ashton Town 2-1 and Stone Dominoes ran out 3-0 home winners over hapless Daisy Hill.
Our very own Cheadle Town are in 14th place with 24 points from 25 matches.

I wasn't aware that the club did any "player of the month" awards. I know they have a "manager's player of the season" and a "players' player of the season" at the end of the season....
Anyhow, yes, why not...Carl for 'Player of the Month', I'd go with that!
('Player of the Month'....hmmm, an idea for the blog next season, methinks....)

Ah yes, the NWCFL do have a League Player of the Month. I'll see what Trevor and Steve's intentions are (and to ask them if we've ever had a player that's won it!).
Player profiles? Looks like I'll have to give up on them for this season. The best time to get that kinda thing sorted out is pre-season, so I hope to re-visit the player profile issue and use that time to get some new individual pictures and all (all hopefully wearing a new white-black-black kit!)
The League's Player of the Month is voted for by the opposition for each game. Then I assume, if one player gets a few consecutive Man of the Match performances, he'll win the monthly award.
Cheadle Town did win a Player of the Month award a few years ago, I think his name was Steve Elwell and his award is still in the cabin.
