Saturday's Opponents: Darwen
Whereas Polardin's act of soothsaying came to eventual fruition last Saturday, mine regarding Darwen at the start of the season has gone well and truly west. Based on the hypothesis that a bit of investment can change a team's fortunes for the good, I boldly predicted that Darwen would be "one of my fancied teams this season".
It looks like Ted Ward's investment hasn't had the desired effect at the Anchor Ground with any thoughts of promotion up the non-league pyramid being put on hold for at least another season; they lie in 10th place and what looks like an insurmountable 14 points behind a 2nd place.
Their results this season have been a bit of a dolly mixture and all: a 5-2 away victory at Castleton Gabriels, a 0-4 thumping at Holker Old Boys, a 5-1 home defeat of Ashton Town and their most recent game, a 0-5 tomming at Padiham.
So this is a game contested by two teams licking some very serious wounds. Hopefully we will have Deano back to spearhead the attack and erase the memories of last week's trip to the seaside.
Come on Cheadle!

what investment has he made ? from what i and the rest of the darwen supporters can see he has just milked the club dry i dont think he has the money he says he has players and staff havent been paid and if you read the artical by mr holland and the post on that there are lots of people who havent been paid for work they have done has anyone really looked into the ward guy i have done some research and as far has i can see he has a string of failed companies one wound up company after another how does this man get away with this all the time he is affecting peoples lives here he needs stopping
Thanks for the honest, insider's view.
You could do with having a chat with somebody from Chadderton FC as they seem to be having exactly the same problem at the moment i.e "investors" coming in and ended up stripping the club bare. It's a shame that this should happen and certainly serves a warning to other clubs at this level who are approached by people with "good financial intentions".
Keep us posted with what's happening at The Anchor....
yes i will keep you informed. kevin hendry the real owner of darwen needs to be contacted and told what this ward guy is up to before it is too late he is full of ....
