Weekend Round-Up
As you may have noticed it's been a bit on the cold and snowy side this week, so the NWCFL Div 2 programme copped for its fair share of postponements.
Of the matches that did go ahead, Leek CSOB kep themselves in the hunt for the top places with a 2-1 away win at now-struggling Castleton Gabriels. That win keeps them fifth with Bootle just behind them in sixth; they collected a 1-0 away win at Blackpool Mechanics.
Runcorn Linnets will now be looking ever-so-nervously over their shoulders after they lost 1-0 at Padiham; ex-Cheadle forward Vinnie Braine getting the only goal. Padiham's win puts them in third place...just four points behind second-placed Linnets. In Runcorn's favour are the seven home matches they have left in their run-in. In the (frankly unlikely) event that Runcorn start shedding points, things could get interesting.
Darwen's assault on the top pack was pegged back with a 2-2 draw at home to Ashton Athletic. Darwen are now in 7th place and are starting to lose touch with the top pack.
Our very own Cheadle Town are still in 13th place with 22 points from 24 games.
