Tomorrow's Opponents: Alsager Town
Our next opponents are 'The Bullets' of Alsager Town who currently live in the Unibond First Division, putting them some two divisions above Cheadle Town.
They were formed under the name of Alsager FC in 1965 from the merger of Alsager Institute and Alsager United, and the current ground was acquired in 1967.
In 2001 the club name was changed to Alsager Town, a move which also coincided with the addition of floodlights to The Town Ground. They then finished in 2nd place in the Second Division of the NWCFL, thus earning them promotion to the 1st Division. They climed even further in 2006 when a 3rd place finish earned them promotion into the Northern Premier League.
Famous Alsager Residents
Ex-Manchester United player Jimmy Greenhoff lives on Caldy Road. And his son lives in Grig Place. Supposedly Steve Coogan was born here. Gordon Banks, ex-England and Stoke 'keeper lived by the Mere in the village on Sandbach Rd. Robbie Williams never bought a house in Alsager, he just looked at one!

We're looking for music for our team to come out to. In honour of our striker Dean Martin we were thinking of 'Let It Snow'. Alsager has to be a Stone Roses classic as they famously did a gig there once! Apparently the Linnets are thinking about the old 'Hit Man & Her' theme tune: sounds good to me! "Rofos Theme (old Canal Street tune)"
As a benchmark to the game on Saturday we have a quote to the report from Runcorn's official site: "Cheadle Town probably proved to be the strongest opposition faced so far"
